"The Saddest Place on Earth" Exhibition

"The Saddest Place on Earth " is an exhibition curated by a creative collaboration from Singapore called Mimipong, whose current focus is on conceptual plush, and this time there will be a cooperation with Pin-To Book.

Having recently presented the exhibition, The Saddest Place on Earth, at BooksActually in Singapore, these time the project will be extended to Macau.

The Saddest Place on Earth in Singapore features the Hug Your Sorrow tear dolls in collaboration with 21 international and Singaporean creatives. These well-respected individuals include musicians Jens Lekman and Laura Marling, award-winning filmmaker Ellery Ngiam and Singapore Literature Prize winner Ng Yi-Sheng.

The Saddest Place on Earth is an exhibition where people from a diverse range of backgrounds pen their own unique interpretations of sadness, loss and sorrow .

This object draws its inspiration from the traditional oriental screen.

Its function is to shape space and it can be used in different positions.

Route may inhabit space solely on its own or with other objects, allowing a metamorphosis from a lamp into a wall of light.

We are now working in the redesign of the BOOM CHAIR looking to bring this concept to the market during 2009.

URBAN WARRIORS | Maximum Security Commissariat Miguel Rios

was searching for proposals that look forward to find solutions for city problems. They called for works that could be operative, in which the functional components could help citizens to live better the pollution strain, the urban rhythm, the isolation dangers and the aggressions to their own security.

We’ve conceived a unisex piece of clothing made to all citizens that should…

… mirror the dubious character of their feelings, allowing them to be faithful to themselves *… be simple, iconic, subjective and universal

… give autonomy, power of decision and civic responsibility

… work as a shout for life in the loneliness of anonymity

… allow visibility and security in moments of eminent danger

… confer a sense of freedom and individual responsibility as an essential right on the search for truth and for the vitality that stems from the society as a whole

… allows them not to feel constrained and obliged to ear the city noise, enabling them to be peacefully with their thoughts

… lets the user be invisible and truly anonymous, becoming precisely the image of what the city makes of them: a pedestrian

… offers a space for privacy and introspection - a home-cocoon.

Only in this context will be possible to avoid the supremacy of who, in the dark, gets power over the citizen’s silence and passiveness. The piece of clothing is a waterproof dark blue coat with a hood and it has a zip’s system allowing its transformation into a jump suit.

The hood can be closed with elastic strings and it’s provided with an “ears protecting system” that can be withdrew or stretched, depending on the user’s will to ear or not the sounds of the city.

We have created in this peace of clothing a lightning system that draws the human silhouette – operational by the users’ action. It is based on the urban signs’ language: on the front side, the light is white; on the back it is red.

The intention is to turn this language the most universal possible, reinforcing the citizens’ physical and human dimension.

Inside the suit it is printed a deliberately juxtaposed sequence of images that propose the user ways of fruition of his “burka”. It is a comic sequence, or diagram, that uses simple icons to ease identification and inform immediately.

The suit has two positions: when the clothing has no light it reinforces the citizen’s estate of isolation, letting him truly anonymous; the second, when the clothing is enlightened, corresponds to an estate of alert, marking out and detaching him from whatever vehicles.

La storia narra di una donna e un uomo che si trovano in due città italiane. La donna si trova a Ferrara e desidera partire per Roma al più presto per incontrare il personaggio maschile della storia. L’uomo si trova a Roma e desidera partire per Ferrara al più presto per incontrare la donna.

Per intraprendere il viaggio entrambi e personaggi chiamano per telefono un taxi. Il tassista della vicenda femminile raggiunge la signorina in Via Angelini, a Ferrara e si dirige verso Roma. Il tassista della vicenda maschile raggiunge l’uomo in Via Garibaldi, a Roma e si dirige verso Ferrara.

Il viaggio é lungo…e il desiderio di arrivare ha esaurito ogni argomento di conversazione con i tassisti. I passeggeri guardano il finestrino, non guardano nulla di speciale, sono assorbiti dal pensiero di questo viaggio.

Durante il percorso i due si incrociano viaggiando nella direzione opposte della strade; loro non si vedono, ma per un istante si sentono strani.

La storia è descritta e illustrata attraverso una serie di undici (11) vestiti. In ogni vestito è rappresentato un momento della narrazione disposto su due piani, dove sono descritte due azioni che avvengono nel medesimo istante in spazi diversi, nella parte anteriore del vestito è illustrata l’azione femminile (fronte/lei) e sul retro è illustrata l’azione maschile (verso/lui).

Questo processo di rappresentare il progetto enfatizza il carattere de istantaneità e complementarità che si stabilisce nella struttura della storia tra il personaggio maschile e il femminile. I vestiti illustrano questi due universi (femminile e maschile), in modo paradossalmente distante e vicino; gli scenari creati per il contesto femminile riappaiono nella vicenda maschile sotto forma di immagine speculare e vice-versa. Questo gioco tra uomo e donna riflette l’idea di prendere il posto dell’altro, come se une personaggio fosse il negativo dell’altro.

Idillicamente la storia può essere letta completamente quando tute le persone proprietarie de uno dei vestiti si incrociano nello stesso istante e nello stesso spazio.

Derma it is an original creation, in the field of product design, that takes as it main theme the recycling of resources available in the city of Macau.

In this case, the material comes from outdoors banners that have somehow clothed streets and buildings. Derma becomes an object that documents and redesigns images and contexts that belong to the socio-cultural history of Macau.

Derma is a bag that dresses itself with the skin of the city.
